On November 30 (Beijing Time), the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) opened in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The Global Launch Event of the Datong Super Energy Complex, China, hosted by BCI Group, was held at the main venue of COP28.- By 2030, achieve 100% renewable energy across all BCI Group’s global operating campuses;
- By 2040, achieve 100% renewable energy across BCI Group’s global supply chain.
Focused on the vertical integration of infrastructure industries in the AI era of the digital economy, the Datong Super Energy Complex is rooted in Datong, a region rich in resource elements for infrastructure development.
With heavy-asset investment from 0 to 1, BCI Group develops and self-operates key upstream and downstream industrial infrastructure, including ultra-large-scale wind and solar energy bases, extended-range energy storage power stations, water-heat circulation pipe networks, computing equipment R&D and manufacturing bases, and ring-link transmission channels.
By anchoring the localization of the supply chain, talent chain, investment chain and industrial chain, the project aims to build a comprehensive integrated platform of “advanced energy + advanced parks” for computing power equipment under the layout of “One Horizontal, One Vertical, Three Zones, Multiple Parks”.
The Super Energy Complex integrates four core capabilities: advanced energy, advanced parks, advanced equipment and advanced networks.
Adhering to long-termism and altruism, it replaces the traditional land-oriented investment promotion model—characterized by over-reliance on land, subsidies and resource allocation—with industry-driven development, thus addressing its unsustainability.
While helping digital economy enterprises decarbonize their computing power, it forms a unique model for regional computing infrastructure investment:
vertically integrating infrastructure elements such as land, energy, water, equipment and networks; conducting overall planning in advance; developing moderately ahead of demand; and guiding orderly industry access and exit.
This enables the local computing industry to sustainably support regional industrial transformation and upgrading, and continuously boost the sustainable development of the local economy.
Meanwhile, BCI Group carries out concrete, pragmatic and down-to-earth technological and solution innovations across all industrial links.
At the launch event, BCI Group showcased a number of innovative technologies and solutions for the Datong Super Energy Complex platform, including on-site consumption of green electricity, extended-range shared energy storage stations, water-side natural cooling technology, and fully prefabricated solutions for localized equipment manufacturing.
At present, multiple photovoltaic energy bases with a single capacity of 100MW–150MW under the Datong Super Energy Complex platform have been connected to the grid.
China’s first fully prefabricated main structure was recently successfully capped.
Datong’s first advanced server equipment park has also started trial production.
